Commentary
- What a Day 5 we have in store! Tickets are already sold out and it promises to be a memorable finish with all four results on the table. KL Rahul got a reprieve on 5 when Chris Woakes put down a return catch, and just like in the first innings, he will be pivotal to India’s hopes. As for England, they will take momentum into the morning, and with Brydon Carse, who looked off-colour in the first innings, now finding his rhythm, things are looking up for the hosts heading into the final day. Monday, 14th July is set up to be one of those days you simply don't want to miss. If you do, it’s one you might well regret. The first ball on Day 5 will be bowled at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT). - After Lunch, England’s recovery effort resumed through Joe Root and Ben Stokes. Though they had a tough initiation, the experienced pair hung in and looked to stabilise the innings. Amidst all the threats posed by the pacers, it was Washington Sundar who broke through for India. From there, the tourists chipped away steadily. Stokes perished trying to take on Sundar after the break, and the off-spinner combined with Jasprit Bumrah to clean up the tail. From 154/4, England lost 5 for 38 to be bowled out for 192, with Sundar finishing with a fine four-wicket haul.
- Earlier in the morning, variable bounce, especially from the Nursery End, made life uncomfortable for the batters. Jasprit Bumrah posed plenty of questions, though it was Mohammed Siraj who reaped the rewards. Crawley couldn’t convert his start either, while Harry Brook tried to counterpunch in typical fashion but perished to his attacking instincts. England found themselves at 98/4 at the end of the first session.
- Test cricket at its absolute finest! Ben Stokes delivers the final flourish with a peach and three wickets in the last 30 minutes for England have set up a thrilling final day. With 90 minutes left in the day, India began their reply to a middling total of 193. It was a nervy start, with Yashasvi Jaiswal falling early for the second time in the game, to Jofra Archer. Karun Nair and KL Rahul came together to steady the ship, and things looked calm at 41/1. But then came Brydon Carse, bowling with great rhythm and intensity, and he rocked the Indian boat with a fiery spell to drag England right back into the contest.
- 17.4WBen Stokes to Akash Deep, OUT! BOWLED'EM! OUTFOXED! Ben Stokes has produced an absolute jaffa, too good for any tailender! He is pumped up and the crowd goes bonkers at Lord's! Runs full tilt, does Stokes and spears it on a fuller length, aiming at the off stump. Akash Deep plays for the initial line, but the ball lands and then straightens off the deck. Akash hears the death rattle behind him as the off stump is uprooted and cartwheels behind. Akash Deep departs for 1 (11) and India are 58/4. What a sensational end to the day's play as that will be STUMPS ON DAY 4.

- 16.60Brydon Carse to Akash Deep, BEATEN! A huge appeal for caught behind, but not given. Fires it full and gets the ball to shape away from off. Akash Deep tries to push it straight but plays inside the line and is beaten past the outside edge by a thin margin. What a rhythmic spell this has been from Carse!
- 16.50Brydon Carse to Akash Deep, Jags back into the batter, on a hard length, at off. Akash Deep blocks it off the front foot to the bowler. Carse collects the ball and throws some heated words at the batter. Akash Deep responds equally.
- 16.40Brydon Carse to Akash Deep, Cannoned fuller at 142 kph, on the stumps, Akash Deep jams his bat down in time and flicks it to short mid-wicket.
- Here we go again. It is India's turn today to try and run down the clock. Akash Deep has called for the physio with around 5 minutes left in the day. The ball hit Deep on the back thigh and the physio is out with the magic spray.
- 16.30Brydon Carse to Akash Deep, Another big appeal from Carse for LBW, but again, the umpire shakes his head in denial. But this time, Stokes has reviewed it. Hits the length hard, around off and it then nips in a long, long way, across and into the batter. Akash Deep is stuck inside the crease as he brings the bat in front to block, but plays the wrong line and is hit on the inner thigh pad. There's a clear gap between the bat and the pad and Ball Tracking shows the ball to be clipping the leg stump on the umpire's call. NOT OUT.

- 16.10Brydon Carse to Akash Deep, A huge appeal for LBW, but the finger stays down! Probably doing a bit too much to slide down leg. England do not opt for a review as it would have missed the leg stump by a long way. Fired in fuller and jagging back into the batter. Akash Deep misses to flick from his crease as he plays over the line. He is hit on the front pad.
