Tesla chief Elon Musk’s latest foray into showcasing his gaming prowess quickly went off the rails when a livestream of him playing Path of Exile 2 aboard his private jet turned into a brutal roast-fest.
The SpaceX boss, attempting what he dubbed an “airborne continuity test” of Starlink, found himself in the crosshairs of a relentless barrage of insults from other players — and abruptly exited the stream after repeated virtual defeats.
As soon as the livestream kicked off on X, formerly known as Twitter, players flooded the in-game chat with personal jabs. “You have no real friends and will die alone,” read one brutal comment. Another player piled on: “You ruined the country just like you ruined all your marriages.”
“You look this dumb and ugly,” one message read, continuing, “why is ur Tesla company falling apart.” Musk, visibly distracted, began clicking the ignore button but couldn’t keep up with the onslaught. “Anyone spamming the chat will get uhhh,” he said awkwardly during the stream.
Adding a strange twist, one player impersonated MAGA personality Ashley St Clair, referencing a viral rumor from earlier this year. “Elon. It’s me, Ashley St Claire. I have no other means of contacting you so I bought PoE2 early access just for this. Please pay your child support. Thank you Elon,” the message repeated in the chat.
At one point, Musk’s estranged daughter Vivian Wilson was brought into the mix, with one player referencing her earlier claim that her father was “god awful” at gaming. The claim originally surfaced during an interview with Twitch streamer Hasan Piker, where Wilson revealed that she and her brother used to “carry” Musk in Overwatch. “I can expose something that I think is really f------ funny,” she had said. “He would try to constantly get us to play ranked with him, and I’m 90% sure it was just because we could carry him.”
Wilson also dismissed Musk’s boasts of being a pro at Path of Exile 2. “I don't believe the f----- ‘I am a pro Path of Exile whatever the fuck.’ No the f--- you are not. This is so cringe. Why would you even pretend to be—it's fine not to be a gamer,” she said.
Musk’s stream took an even weirder turn when he started playing music by his ex, Grimes, with whom he shares three children. Viewers quickly noted that he seemed flustered as he repeatedly died to the game’s first boss. After the third death, Musk claimed the "connection was lost" — and cut the stream.
But many didn’t buy the explanation. “Elon Musk just rage quit his twitter stream after repeatedly dying to a tutorial boss in the new PoE2 patch on hardcore,” wrote one viewer on X. Reddit threads quickly followed with users piling on. “Claiming ‘oh I lost the connection’, while you can hear his connection perfectly, and seamlessly goes and exits the game. He will blame his STARLINK connection before he will acknowledge he sucks at video games,” said one post.
Critics didn’t hold back, calling Musk "rattled" and suggesting the trolling got to him. “For the longest time, I used to think that he was loving the negative attention because narcissists love any kind of attention. But after this video, I am now convinced that he is actually starting to get bothered by the fact that people just do not like him!”
Others added their own diagnosis of Musk’s livestream antics: “His need for validation is just pathetic. He’s in his fifties. He’s incredibly wealthy. But he’s so goddamned needy it’s embarrassing.”
And many couldn’t get past the fact that Musk had chosen to blast music made by his former partner. “Not him trying to drown out the haters with music made by his ex who hates him lmao. Peak loser behavior,” one Reddit user commented. “Like? WHAT? He’s so weird!!” another replied.
