NEW DELHI: Calling Pakistan-backed terrorists "murderers in the name of jihad", Hyderabad MP and AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday made an emphatic appeal for a global campaign to dismantle The Resistance Front (TRF), which had claimed responsibility for the recent Pahalgam terror attack .
At an all-party meeting chaired by defence minister Rajnath Singh a day after India carried out precision airstrikes at nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, Owaisi threw his weight behind Operation Sindoor . "I complimented the armed forces and the government. But this must not stop at airstrikes. We must now take this fight to global forums, get the UN Security Council, the US, and UK to list TRF as a terror outfit and sanction Pakistan," he said after the meeting.
Owaisi cited a February speech by Hafiz Abdur Rauf in PoK where the Lashkar-e-Taiba ideologue allegedly vowed to unleash jihad this year. "These are not freedom fighters, they are murderers. We must get Pakistan back on the FATF grey list ,” he said, referring to the global anti-terror financing watchdog.
While the defence minister refrained from revealing full operational details, sources said Rajnath Singh informed party leaders that around 100 terrorists were believed to have been eliminated in the strikes on Muridke and Bahawalpur—long known as LeT strongholds. Singh clarified that the numbers are still being verified.
Owaisi also urged the government to extend support to civilians affected by Pakistan’s ceasefire violations. “Those who died in Poonch, those who lost homes in Uri, acknowledge them as terror victims. Rebuild their lives.”
In a notable intervention, Owaisi also addressed international speculation around reports of a Rafale jet being downed in Bathinda. “The IAF must clarify and deny such reports, if false, to preserve morale,” he said.
Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the Pahalgam attack, has dramatically raised the stakes between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, but Singh reiterated that India does not want to escalate further, unless provoked again.
