NEW DELHI: Four Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh 's Bijapur district on Saturday.

Three Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jharkhand's Gumla district earlier in the day.

According to officials, intelligence inputs had indicated the presence of members of the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad ( JJMP ), a breakaway faction of the CPI (Maoist), at Lawadag in the Ghaghra police station limits.

Acting on the input, a joint operation was launched by the Jharkhand Jaguar force and Gumla Police.

Police said an exchange of fire took place between the security forces and the Naxalites, with several rounds discharged from both sides.

Following the gunfight, an AK-47 rifle and two INSAS rifles were recovered from the scene.

"One of the deceased was identified as Dilip Lohra, 32, a resident of Belagada in Ghaghra. The identification of the other two deceased is still underway," Gumla Superintendent of Police Haris Bin Zaman said news agency PTI.

The SP said that the JJMP members had been hiding in a house near Lawadag Choraltwa village for the last two to three days.

"As the police reached the spot, they opened fire and attempted to flee. In the exchange of fire that followed, the three JJMP members were killed, while two managed to escape," he added.
