Microsoft has begun an early rollout of Copilot for Gaming on iPhones and Android devices, a report has said, adding that the company is integrating the AI assistant directly into the Xbox mobile app . This initial version allows testers to access Copilot as a companion for tasks such as viewing recent Xbox achievements , receiving game recommendations based on play history, and requesting tips or guides for completing games.
As per The Verge, future updates are expected to enable users to download and install games on their consoles directly through the Xbox Copilot.
How Copilot for Gaming assistant may help users
Officially named Copilot for Gaming, the assistant features a customisable voice and a chatbot interface similar to Microsoft's main Copilot.
"In this early version of the feature for mobile, you’ll be able to access Copilot for Gaming on a second screen, without distracting you from your core gameplay experience," said Taylor O’Malley, principal program manager at Xbox, explaining the feature's design.
He added that the companion is aware of the user's current game and Xbox activity, allowing it to answer game-specific questions, provide web links for more information, and respond to queries based on account details, play history and achievements.
The publication says that Microsoft's broader vision for Copilot for Gaming includes evolving it into an AI gaming coach that can guide players directly within Xbox console games.
It is to be noted that earlier this year, Microsoft demonstrated a future Copilot interface assisting in Overwatch 2 by identifying player mistakes and recommending hero selections.
Testing for Copilot for Gaming is currently available in the beta version of the Xbox mobile app in the US, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Singapore.
