Hacking group Anonymous has claimed responsibility for a major cyberattack on Russia . The cybercriminal group took to the social media platform X (earlier Twitter) to reveal that it has released 10TB of leaked data online. The data reportedly contains sensitive information about Russia’s political environment, domestic businesses, pro-Russian officials, and Kremlin-linked assets overseas. Additionally, the leak is said to contain alleged information concerning US President Donald Trump. The X post includes a picture which shows the file names of the leaked data. One of the files can be seen named as “Leaked Data of Donald Trump.”
In the X post, Anonymous wrote: “In defense of Ukraine Anonymous has released 10TB of leaked data on all businesses operating in Russia, all Kremlin assets in the West, pro-Russian officials, Donald Trump, and more. 🇺🇦 #OpRussia”
However, the hacking group has not provided any additional updates or issued any threats to release more information.
Known for their ‘ hacktivism ,’ they have a history of targeting specific governments and corporations. The group typically focuses on entities they consider corrupt, oppressive, or harmful—and, true to their name, they operate anonymously.
Earlier this year, the international activist hacking group issued warnings to social media users regarding Trump’s actions and his connections with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Recently, Anonymous has also been critical of the Trump Administration after the US imposed tariffs on multiple countries. In 2022, the hacking group declared a ‘cyber war’ against Russia for its conflict with Ukraine.
