Surat: Skeletal remains of a woman were discovered near a rivulet in the Sachin GIDC police station area on Wednesday evening, prompting a police investigation to ascertain whether it was a case of murder or suicide.
The remains were spotted by local shepherds behind a temple in Budiya village, who promptly alerted the police. Upon reaching the site, officers recovered a skull, hair, and other body parts scattered across the area—some of which were found inside a plastic bag, raising suspicions of foul play.
The skeletal remains were collected and sent for postmortem examination.
Sachin GIDC police inspector K.A. Gohil told TOI, "The preliminary postmortem report indicates no sharp cuts or external injury marks. The remains are of a female, estimated to be between 25 and 35 years old, and the death is believed to have occurred around 20 to 25 days ago."
The viscera and other biological samples have been sent for forensic examination to determine the exact cause of death. "We are currently working to identify the deceased. Once the identity is confirmed, we can proceed to ascertain the circumstances surrounding her death," added Gohil. "At this stage, we have registered an accidental death report and formed multiple teams to investigate."
However, as some body parts were found in the plastic bag police are not ruling out possibilty of murder.
Given that the rivulet flows through several areas—including Saroli, Limbayat, Pandesara, Udhna, and Althan—before reaching Sachin GIDC, police teams have been dispatched to these zones to verify if any missing person complaints matching the woman's description have been filed.
