Lucknow: Nishad Party plans to contest the Karchhana, Bara, and Handia assembly seats in Prayagraj in the 2027 UP assembly elections, said party president and UP fisheries minister Sanjay Nishad.
He was leading the party's ‘ Samvaidhanik Adhikar Yatra ' in Prayagraj. The 'yatra' was launched on Nov 30 from Ma Shakumbhari Devi Shaktipeeth in Saharanpur. It is meant to drum up public support for reservation for all the sub-castes of Nishads in the state under the SC category.
"The yatra was divided into four phases. Prayagraj is the last leg of it," said the minister. After moving through Pratapgarh, Mirzapur, Bhadohi, and Sonbhadra, it will conclude in Lucknow.
The alliance between BJP and Nishad Party happened for the welfare of Nishads and to get them reservation under the SC category, he added.
Meanwhile, the party claimed that the aim of the 'yatra' is also to know how well the welfare schemes of the govt were implemented at the ground level through direct communication with the beneficiaries.
The party has also tried connecting with backward castes, other than Nishads, to bring them within the fold of the welfare schemes of the centre and the state, besides publicising the schemes that the state govt launched for the fishermen communities.
