ITV viewers were left unimpressed by Win Win, the latest game show to land on the broadcaster. During its Saturday (September 6) evening debut, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins returned to screens as hosts. The competition series with People's Postcode Lottery featured 40 contestants in the studio playing against each other for a chance to win a life-changing £1 million cash prize. Billed as an "interactive TV event where anyone can be a winner", the fresh programme also allows home viewers to compete to win identical prizes through its app.
The series, comprising six episodes, builds towards a nail-biting finale. One fortunate participant will claim an extraordinary £1 million prize, with radio presenter Jordan North heading out to surprise selected viewers at home. Throughout the episode, players will have to guess answers specific to the British public, after ITV polled the nation to discover what they hate or despise. Despite this, many viewers were left unimpressed and revealed they turned the channel over as one fumed: "Right, that's enough of that. I'm away over to something else... anything else!#WINWIN." As another was also left fed up and said: "What a load of crap, and we have to suffer another 5 weeks of this for me no, time to turn over."
Speaking on the hosts, a third said: "They try SO hard to be funny but either they're not I am completely devoid of a sense of humour."
Another slammed: "This is not a quiz show. What is it? It's awful, really awful. #WINWIN" As a fourth echoed: "What a load of crap, and we have to suffer another 5 weeks of this for me no, time to turn over #WinWin."
"I've stuck with it until now, but off it goes Mel and Sue not my cup of tea, not funny annoying yes," blasted one viewer.
Meanwhile, others defended the quiz show and said: "As a gameshow fan, I'm really enjoying it so far! Something fun and a bit different - quiz questions yes, but you guessing what you think the public thought. Almost Family Fortunes meets Tenable."
Throughout the episode, successful players were given the choice to secure a spot by either claiming victory or exchanging a reward for placement.
While those playing at home were also able to earn a position by participating, and the winners received a roar of applause as their names appeared on screen
In the concluding episode, one player on Millionaire's Row will claim the top prize.
Ahead of the show's premiere, presenter Mel remarked: "The interactivity is probably key. It's not just about shouting at the telly or arguing with your family about the answers; you can actually join in and you could win."
As Sue stated: "In the spirit of great Saturday night TV, it's packed with laughter, drama, plus stomach-churning decisions. It's incredibly exciting to be a part of."
