Weapons, the latest horror film to grace UK cinemas, premieres today (August 8), chilling audiences with the eerie story of a group of children who mysteriously disappear at the same time on the same night.
Penned and directed by Zach Cregger, the creative force behind genre-twisting horror Barbarian and the 2025 thriller Companion, his newest venture has already garnered glowing early reviews from critics.
Those daring enough to watch Weapons may find themselves recognising the film's lead, Julia Garner. The actress portrays dedicated teacher Justine Gandy, who finds herself in an unsettling situation when her entire class fails to turn up for school.
Prior to Weapons, Garner had already amassed an impressive portfolio in both film and television. Her major breakthrough role was as the fiery southerner Ruth Langmore in the popular Netflix drama Ozark, where she shared the screen with acting titans Jason Bateman and Laura Linney, reports the Mirror.
Her performance as Ruth earned her three Emmy Awards in 2019, 2020 and 2022 for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series.
She also received a nomination for another Emmy in 2022 for Lead Actress for her portrayal of con artist Anna Delvey in the Netflix series Inventing Anna, although she didn't clinch the award.
The 31-year-old star's other acting credits include roles in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Apartment 7A, Wolf Man and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

In a candid 2021 chat with W Magazine, Julia Garner revealed her childhood battles with epilepsy and learning difficulties.
"I had really bad reading problems and learning disabilities, and I was also very sick as a child, with epilepsy," she confided to the magazine. "I felt like everything that I said was stupid, so I just shut down."
Yet, it was through acting that Garner found a way to break free from her shell and find new modes of expression. She shared: "When I took acting, I discovered that I could use someone else's lines and still express my own feelings.
"I loved that, because I felt like I was being heard. And not only that, I felt like I could hear myself for the first time."
Garner is married to musician Mark Foster, who she wed in December 2019. Her renowned other half is the frontman of Foster the People, known for chart-toppers like Pumped Up Kicks, Call It What You Want, and Don't Stop.
Their romance sparked at the Sundance Film Festival, leading to an engagement amidst a Yellowstone National Park road trip.
Initially planning a 2020 wedding, they fast-tracked their nuptials, exchanging vows at Christmas in New York's City Hall - echoing the venue where Garner's parents were married.
