A Texas mum, accused of shooting her four children and killing two of them, chillingly told investigators she planned to "kill them all" after they were discovered injured in her car, court documents reveal.
Oninda Romelus, 31, dialled 999 at 4:48 a.m on Saturday, urging officers to rush to a petrol station in Angleton, Brazoria County.
Upon arrival, deputies were met with the horrifying sight of four children suffering from gunshot wounds. The news comes as one person dead as emergency services issue major update.
Tragically, a 13 year old boy and a 3 year old girl were declared dead at the scene, while an 8 year old boy and 9 year old girl were airlifted to a hospital in Houston, where they are currently in a "stable condition", according to Brazoria County Sheriff Bo Stallman. The children's grandfather has since issued a heart-wrenching statement.
As detectives strive to piece together the events leading up to this horrific incident, court records obtained by KPRC 2 reveal unsettling comments made by the mother following the shooting, reportsthe Mirror US.
Romelus appeared paranoid about her surroundings and repeatedly glanced towards the door during an interview at the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office jail, records indicate. When questioned, investigators noted that she seemed alert and aware but was "talking nonsense."
Initially, the mother told investigators that she "couldn't talk about it," before ominously adding: "Instead of them doing it to me, I'm gonna do it to them," the records disclose.
When questioned, she chillingly replied to the question "Do what?" with "Kill them all," according to court documents. Romelus was also quizzed about why she dialled 999.
She bizarrely claimed she hadn't called emergency services but had instead "called the devil."
She repeatedly stated she was "ready to work," a phrase which detectives said made no sense in the given context, the records reveal. When asked about her children's whereabouts, she reportedly told officers they were with "the devil," adding, "They're dead," and, "'Cause you can't take me without me taking you."
She later coldly declared her children were "dead to her," as per the documents. Commenting on the disturbing statements, Dr. Asim Shah, a psychiatrist at Baylor College of Medicine, told Click2Houston that the tragedy could have been the result of a severe and untreated mental health crisis.
"Usually, this severe situation doesn't happen overnight," Shah commented. "This takes a while to develop this severe... this bad."
He suggested Romelus may have been suffering from psychosis, a complete break from reality.
"Nothing can be as sad as this," Shah expressed. "But when, as a psychiatrist, I hear this, the first thing which comes to my mind is psychosis, because no person in their right mind will hurt anybody, especially their own child. So psychosis comes to mind... that a person would be delusional, paranoid, thinking that if I don't hurt my kids, somebody else is going to hurt them," he added.
Dr Shah urges families who notice warning signs such as paranoia, hearing voices, or sudden behavioural changes to seek help immediately. "If you don't know where to start, just remember 988," he said, referring to the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
"That's the mental-health emergency line, the same way you'd call 911 for a medical emergency," he added.

Romelus is facing two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She is being held in Brazoria County Jail on a $14 million bond.
CCTV footage shows Romelus filled up her car with $56 worth of petrol before officers confronted her at the Oasis petrol station. The 13 year old boy was discovered dead in the front passenger seat of the car, whilst the three other children were found with gunshot injuries in the rear seats.
Child Protective Services had previously been in contact with Romelus and is investigating the incident, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services confirmed. A judge has not yet determined who will have custody of the two surviving children once they are discharged from hospital.
