Over 24 hours have elapsed since the shocking murder of conservative pundit Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot in front of a crowd of 3,000 Utah Valley University students. The attendees had convened to engage with Kirk's political views.
Meanwhile, authorities in Utah are still hunting for a "person of interest" linked to the horrific killing of the influential MAGA ally, who was just 31 years old.
US law enforcement agencies are pursuing "multiple leads" after receiving over 200 tips from the public in their search for the suspected shooter. The FBI has announced a hefty $100,000 reward for information that leads to the "identification and arrest of the individual(s) responsible for the murder of Charlie Kirk."
An image was circulated by officials on Thursday, depicting a man in a dark T-shirt and baseball cap, as part of the extensive manhunt for the person sought for questioning. Utah police then delayed a scheduled midday press briefing due to "rapid developments" in the investigation, but have yet to find the individual captured on campus security footage.
Later in the day, the Public Safety department of Utah disseminated four additional images of the man they are eager to find, providing clearer visuals.
The suspect, caught on campus security cameras, is seen traversing a stairwell dressed in a black long-sleeved T-shirt adorned with an American flag design, blue trousers, and Converse-style footwear.
Donning a cap and sunglasses to conceal his identity, the man was captured on camera navigating through Utah Valley University campus. One image reveals him lugging a bulging backpack.
Federal agents and local law enforcement are collaborating in the hunt for the suspect, believed to be of university age. This factor is speculated to have aided his escape following the shocking murder of MAGA influencer Charlie Kirk.
In the immediate aftermath of the gunshot and the sight of blood gushing from 31 year old Kirk's neck, police officers present at the scene briefly detained an elderly man from the crowd, only to release him shortly after.
An hour later, the FBI announced the detention of another individual, who was also subsequently released.
Investigators theorise that the fatal shot originated from a rooftop approximately 200 metres away from where Kirk was delivering his speech, in an open area of the university campus.
Social media videos seem to depict an individual fleeing from a rooftop just after the shooting, as thousands of students scattered in terror.
A high-calibre rifle, suspected to be the weapon used in the shooting, was later found in nearby woods, along with a footprint. The firearm is currently undergoing analysis.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased commentator is being transported back to his family home in Phoenix, Arizona. On Thursday evening, US Vice President JD Vance honoured Kirk by personally escorting his body home aboard Air Force Two.
Kirk and Vance shared a close friendship and political alliance for many years, with the Vice President attributing his political success to the conservative firebrand in a heartfelt tribute.
As he accompanied Kirk's body onto his plane, surrounded by military personnel, Vance quietly placed his hand on his friend's casket and walked across the airport tarmac.
