Manchester United have started a crucial summer transfer window with two major signals of intent. Matheus Cunha is already through the door, joining in a £62.5million deal from Wolves on Sunday. Bryan Mbeumo - another of the Premier League's top-performing forwards in 2024/25 - has reportedly chosen Old Trafford as his next destination.
United will require player sales for further incomings, and club captain Bruno Fernandes continues to be strongly linked with a switch to Al-Hilal before the Club World Cup. The 30-year-old is reportedly seriously considering a move to the Saudi Pro League, which would substantially boost Ruben Amorim's budget.
Read on for a look at United's potential lineup at the start of next season if Mbeumo arrives and Fernandes heads the opposite direction.
GK: Senne LammensAndre Onana isn't good enough, and United are expected to pursue a new goalkeeper if funds allow.
Senne Lammens is reportedly a target after the 22-year-old Belgian's impressive campaign at Royal Antwerp. But it's a position that will likely only be addressed if Onana leaves.
RCB: Leny YoroLeny Yoro went from strength to strength throughout his first season at Old Trafford and will undoubtedly be a regular starter on the other side of the summer.
CCB: Matthijs de LigtMatthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire can share the role of central centre-back throughout the 2025/26 campaign.
LCB: Ayden HeavenAyden Heaven has already shown signs that he can start regularly for United with a series of eye-catching displays since his January arrival from Arsenal.
Luke Shaw and Noussair Mazraoui can provide competition until Lisandro Martinez returns from injury in the winter.
With Mbeumo and Cunha likely to make up two-thirds of United's strongest front three, Amad appears primed to become Amorim's starting right-wing-back.
CM: Morten HjulmandEven if Fernandes stays, the Red Devils must sign more legs in midfield. Morten Hjulmand has been linked with the Premier League for a long time and would represent an option Amorim knows he can trust.
CM: Kobbie MainooUnited will reportedly work with Kobbie Mainoo over the summer to make him more accustomed to operating in the midfield pivot in the 3-4-3 system.
The 20-year-old endured a frustrating second season in senior football but will feature in Amorim's plans.
LWB: Patrick DorguPatrick Dorgu has shown sparks of promise since landing at United in January and can only improve after a full pre-season.
RF: Bryan MbeumoMbeumo will be a certain starter if United can agree a transfer fee with Brentford, either as the right forward or the striker.
LF: Matheus CunhaSimilarly, Cunha will play a prominent role from the get-go as part of the attack or even by utilising his ball-carrying ability in midfield.
ST: Viktor GyokeresNo Champions League football hasn't proven costly for United so far, but it could do in their pursuit of Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres.
That said, Arsenal seem to be focusing on Benjamin Sesko, Chelsea have signed Liam Delap, and Liverpool are about to splash over £100m on Florian Wirtz.
Gyokeres is there for the taking, and United are proving their ambition early in the summer transfer window. Amorim will still hold hope of a reunion.
