Manchester United are eyeing a first win at Anfield since January 2016 when they face a low-confidence Liverpool this Sunday. The Premier League champions have lost three matches in a row and look vulnerable as Ruben Amorim's Red Devils plot a massive upset and their first ever back-to-back league wins under the Portuguese coach.
United have come away with a draw on both of their last two trips to Anfield since a 7-0 loss in March 2023 and so know what it takes to frustrate Liverpool. And Amorim and co. will be confident of punishing this weekend's hosts on the counter-attack in pursuit of a statement result. Express Sport's writers decide how the United manager should line up on Merseyside...

Lammens; Yoro, De Ligt, Shaw; Amad, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dorgu; Mbeumo, Mount; Sesko
Just the one change from the 2-0 win over Sunderland last time out for United with Patrick Dorgu retaining his place at left-back. I'm a big advocate of Kobbie Mainoo and I think it's only a matter of time before Ruben Amorim is forced to use the England midfielder. Against Liverpool, Mainoo's stamina and ball-playing ability is tempting but Casemiro's experience gets him the nod - for now.

Lammens; Yoro, De Ligt, Mazraoui; Amad, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dorgu; Mbeumo, Mount; Sesko
Man Utd's best chance of winning this game is probably on the counter-attack. Benjamin Sesko can help win duels against Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate to give his team-mates chance to support him. His line-up with Bryan Mbeumo will be key. Mason Mount has earned the right to start again over Matheus Cunha while Amad and Patrick Dorgu offer vital pace out wide. Noussair Mazraoui comes back into the team at the expense of Luke Shaw.
Joe Doyle
Lammens; Yoro, De Ligt, Maguire; Mazraoui, Mainoo, Casemiro, Dorgu; Mbeumo, Fernandes, Sesko
Lammens is simply a must-pick in goal. He's only played one game and I'm sure there will be low points, but he's simply better than Bayindir. At centre-back, I'd be tempted to go Maguire over Shaw, with De Ligt and Yoro partnering him. I'd then go Dorgu and Mazraoui at wing-back in what is likely to be a bit of an attritional game. In such a tight game, Casemiro starts alongside Mainoo in midfield, with Fernandes and Mbeumo in the No.10 roles. Fernandes is just too offensively-minded to start in a deeper role. And it's Sesko up top, with Mount and Cunha to make an impact off the bench.
Jack McEachen
Lammens; Yoro, De Ligt, Shaw; Dalot, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dorgu; Mbeumo, Sesko, Cunha
Even though Amorim is reportedly considering recalling Ugarte, he must resist that temptation or risk another embarrassment if the Uruguayan's recent form continues. On the left, Dorgu and Cunha come back in to provide some much-needed threat down that flank, where Liverpool and Frimpong could be targeted. Sesko gets the nod over Mount, despite the former Chelsea man's impressive displays this season. On the counter may be United's only chance of a result at Anfield and their £74million man is starting to show why he is so highly rated.
