Emmerdale viewers took to social media with theories after watching John Sugden (played by Oliver Farnworth) manipulate a death for his advantage. As the beloved ITV soap returned to screens, the murderer, who is also a paramedic practitioner, went to pay Owen Michaels (Simon Haines) a home visit when he finds him unconscious. Instead of calling an ambulance, John lets him simply slip away.
The paramedic struck again after reaching for Owen's laptop and crafted a letter, seemingly a suicide note, in which he takes the blame for Nate's (Jurell Carter) death, which was actually John's doing. After this fans watched him put on gloves and wipe down the surfaces in the crime scene. As the dramatic scenes unfolded on screen, viewers spotted a major error and anticipated that John would soon take the fall for his actions. Taking to X - formerly known as Twitter - one viewer wrote: "Yeah, using surgical alcohol everywhere won't be at all suspicious."
A second fan echoed: "You do realise that NO fingerprints is just as big a clue, they should be covered with his, that would ring alarm bells of a third person!!"
"John's wiping evidence down door handles, chain, laptop so when forensics go around no one's ever used the door handle the laptop or chain, there's been no fingerprints on anything," said another. (sic)
As one eagle-eyed viewer noticed a chilling clue which could lead to the medic finally being caught and shared: "John didn't wipe the front handle #emmerdale."
In a sickening move, John then put the chain on Owen's open front door when his colleague, Dr Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) arrived for their appointment, forcing the doctor to leave after noticing there was no response.
After returning to the GP, John caught up with Liam and was asked how his home visits went, to which the murderer claimed: "Well, one fell through. It was Owen Michaels who wasn't home."
Looking at him in confusion, Liam asked: "You did Owen? I did, too. " Then he revealed: "I think he was home, but he didn't come to the door, and the chain was on, which is odd because he never usually has it on. I think I should probably check in on him again in the morning."
Emmerdale fans will remember that John was responsible for Nate's death last year after a barn fire, and he has gone to great lengths to conceal his crime.
However, after Nate's body was recently discovered in the lake, John helped guide suspicion to fall on his father, Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and estranged wife, Tracy Metcalfe (Amy Walsh).
