Bargain Hunt star Caroline Hawley's famous ex-husband and job away from BBC show

Send Push

has produced several famous presenters over the years, with Caroline Hawley being a firm favourite ever since she joined the show in 2013. Originally from Yorkshire, the TV star loves visiting "undiscovered places and unexpected collections" when she's on our television screens. But how did she get into the antiques business, and what does she do in her private life?

Before she started dealing with antiques and collectables, she graduated from the University of Hull with a degree in French. Caroline then set up her first antiques shop in 1983, named the Penny Farthing Antiques. Recalling where her passion for antiques came from, she told , "When I went to auctions and bring and buy sales, things like that, in our village hall. I soon began selling little things of my own - but always for local charities.

"There was also a tip that we discovered, as kids, where people from decades back had just chucked things away - broken bits and pieces, old glass bottles for pop, things like that."

Away from her job on Bargain Hunt, Caroline is married to former football star John Hawley. The pair tied the knot in 2008 and now runs an antiques shop alongside Caroline.

However, it's not a drastic career change for the football pro as he used to work in his father's antique shop back in 1966.

Away from her job, Caroline's guilty pleasure is very simple, "A large mint chocolate chip ice cream at the end of a long walk with my dog," according to

She also explained to the BBC that if she wasn't working in antiques, she might have pursued a career in archaeology or even fashion design.

She said: "I think that archaeology would be fascinating but probably a little too slow and painstaking for me. I would want to dive in and unearth everything in double quick time; patience not being a virtue of mine!
