The opposition has nominated B Sudarshan Reddy, a former Supreme Court judge, as its candidate for the vice-presidential election

B Sudarshan Reddy is a resident of Telangana. BJP has fielded CP Radhakrishnan from Tamil Nadu as its candidate. All India Alliance is trying to make the contest South versus South. Radhakrishnan comes from the OBC community. Reddy has completed the caste survey in Telangana.

India Alliance has announced the name for the post of Vice President. Former judge B Sudarshan Reddy from Telangana has been made the candidate. Reddy will contest against NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan. Reddy's name has been announced by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

According to Kharge, after discussions with all opposition parties, a decision has been taken on the name of Sudarshan Reddy. Aam Aadmi Party has also supported Reddy's name.

No agreement reached with the government

The government tried to build a consensus on the name of the Vice President, but things did not work out. The NDA had announced the name of CP Radhakrishnan two days ago. After this, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh was given the responsibility of talking to all the parties.

Before B Sudarshan Reddy, the name of DMK's Tiruchi Siva was also being discussed in political circles, but India Alliance has decided to make Sudarshan, who comes from Telangana, the Vice Presidential candidate.

Who is candidate B Sudarshan Reddy?

B Sudarshan Reddy was a Supreme Court judge from 2007 to 2011. Born in 1946, Sudarshan Reddy received his primary education in Andhra. Reddy obtained a law degree from Osmania University. After this, he started working under the famous lawyer K Pratap Reddy. In August 1988, Reddy was appointed as a government lawyer in the High Court.

In 1993, Reddy was appointed Additional Judge of Andhra Pradesh. In 2005, Reddy was made the Chief Justice of the Guwahati High Court. In 2007, Reddy reached the Supreme Court. In 2013, Reddy was appointed Lokayukta of Goa.

Why Sudarshan Reddy was made the candidate?

BJP has fielded CP Radhakrishnan from Tamil Nadu as its candidate. This is being seen as a move to woo the politics of the South. Congress also does not want to stay behind in this battle. That is why the party has put forward Reddy from Telangana.

Not only this, Sudarshan Reddy was the head of the caste survey team in Telangana. The work of the caste survey in Telangana was completed under his leadership. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is constantly raising the issue of the caste census. By bringing Sudarshan Reddy, the party wants to give more edge to this campaign.
