Top Pick Interior Design Masters, BBC1, 8pmThe designers are pairing up for the first time tonight, as they create shiny new show homes at a retirement complex in Portsmouth. Host Alan Carr warns them not to fall into the trap of underestimating the clientele – they might be older than the designers’ usual customers, but they still want luxury and style as they enter an exciting new chapter of their lives.
As the teams get to work, they imagine the fictional clients they are trying to satisfy, and one pair raises eyebrows by revealing the flat will be a retreat for a retired sailor and his mermaid wife. A red flag from the start! Meanwhile, the designers also face the challenge of working in a duo, and Craig and Briony must find a way of blending their very different aesthetics to come up with a cohesive home.
They’re not the only ones with clashing styles, but compromise is as important to this challenge as what goes on the walls. Each team must paint, furnish and dress multiple rooms, so there’s no time for hesitation, even when Rita decides she isn’t very keen on the colour she’s about to splash all over the kitchen wall… When their hard work is done, it’s up to resident judge Michelle Ogundehin and interior designer Sue Timney to decide who has achieved the ultimate in aspirational retirement chic. With extensive experience in this market, Sue knows her stuff, but will the contestants manage to impress her? And which two designers will go home?
As this fly on the wall series returns, it’s clear that mental health crises are increasing the demand faced by the already overstretched London Ambulance Service. While one crew is en route to a vulnerable young woman threatening to jump off a bridge, paramedic Hannah and specialist nurse Niall are starting their shift in the mental health car.
The service is designed to help patients in their hour of need, while also potentially avoiding hospital stays. The first job of the day is to talk to Chris, a suicidal man causing disruption at a public library. As they try to calm him down, Hannah shares how the teams cope when dealing with these kinds of call outs for a relentless 12-hour shift. We also see behind the scenes in the control centre, where the dispatchers take hundreds of calls every hour. They must decide who gets immediate care, and who must wait.
