However, as usual, Susanna was doing the interview solo - but it wasn't always that way. After receiving Ofcom complains - in what people claimed was a 'bias' interview with his wife last year, ITV said they "wouldn't do it again."

Introducing the segment earlier this morning, Susanna said: "The Home Secretary will be on the programme at 8.30."

She then continued to Ed: "Obviously, your other half, and therefore when we say we'll be doing the interview, I'll be doing the interview with the Home Secretary," as she turned back to the camera and nodded - before handing over to Ranvir Singh.

She didn't hold back during the interview - as one wrote on X: "I'm enjoying Susanna getting feisty with Ed Balls' wife," as Andrew Pierce joked about the 'roasting' after the interview.

It comes after people took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to air their concerns. "#GMB is Ed Balls going to interview his wife Yvette Cooper, the Home Secretary this morning...is it allowed.. where's OFCOM?" one questioned on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Whenever the Home Secretary joins the show - her husband Ed Balls is noticeably missing from the show. It comes a year after controversary, when ITV's chief executive spoke out to defend Ed's interview with his wife, but insisted they would never do it again.

During the interview, Kate Garrawaywas joined by Ed Balls to interview Yvette about the government's response to violent unrest in parts of the UK.

"It was a very, very tricky morning, there was a national emergency almost being called, and so we got very short notice that the home secretary was coming on the show," ITV chief executive Dame Carolyn McCall said after the show received over 16,000 Ofcom complaints.

"And actually Ofcom just ruled, but amazingly no-one has picked up on the fact, that Ofcom are not pursuing these complaints, because they believe it's fair, balanced and impartial.

"So would we do it again? No. Was it impartial, fair and balanced? And did they behave professionally? Yes.

Ed and Yvette tied the knot on January 10, 1998 and have three children together.
