Marcus Rashford's Barcelona fortunes change again after 'biggest humiliation' on debut

Marcus Rashford has scored his first goal for Barcelona after finding the back of the net in their 5-0 win over Daegu in pre-season. Rashford joined Barcelona on loan last month, having been frozen out at Manchester United by Ruben Amorim.

Barcelona do have a £26million option to buy the forward, with the deal finalised in time for Rashford to fly out for their pre-season tour of Asia. Rashford made his debut for the club in a 3-1 win over Vissel Kobe, where he suffered what is widely considered to be the biggest humiliation in football.

The 27-year-old came off the bench at half-time and featured for 30 minutes before he was substituted himself. When asked about his decision to take Rashford off, Barcelona boss Hansi Flick explained: "Rashford hasn't played that much, and we also wanted to give Gerard Martin 15 minutes because he was playing after his injury."

Rashford also featured off the bench in a 6-3 win over FC Seoul on Thursday before netting his first goal for Barcelona against Daegu on Monday. Rashford once again came off the bench, replacing Robert Lewandowski at half-time, and he found the back of the net after latching on to a cross from Eric Garcia.

Speaking ahead of the game, Rashford shared his ambitions for the new season, stating: "It's been a good preseason and we're ready for the start of the season. I've integrated quite well and I'm adapting to the team and the coach.

"There are a lot of great players here, but I knew that before I came. The quality is very high and the intensity too, and that’s what we need to maintain throughout the season."

When asked if he has a goal-scoring target, Rashford replied: "As many as I can. I know it will be different for me to play in another country and in a different style of football, but I accept the challenge and will try to score as many goals as possible."

Rashford is yet to be registered to play in La Liga this season due to Barcelona's financial woes, but the England international has insisted he is not concerned about the situation. "I'm not worried about my registration," he said.

"I think it's something the club needs to resolve, and I'm confident it will happen. I'm focused on training and being ready for the start of the season."

Rashford was part of a five-man 'bomb squad' at Old Trafford before his move to Barcelona and he is the only one of those five players who has left so far. Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia have also been frozen out and are expected to leave this summer.
