The club - who finished 16th and level on points with United but had an inferior goal difference - are said to expect United to meet the contractual requirements of paying the fee within two years.

While the 1-0 loss subjected the Old Trafford faithful to witnessing an eighth league defeat at home, some were certainly buoyed by spotting the conversation between the pair.

One United fan on social media went as far to joke that Amorim was "tapping up" the Brazil international by writing on X: "Amorim's literally tapping him up."

While the chat between the pair was unlikely related to Cunha potentially swapping the Molineux for Manchester, that didn't stop fans from declaring that the Brazilian was set to join the Portuguese boss this summer.

Another supporter took to the social media platform to comment: "He is replacing Alejandro Garnacho in our starting line-up next season."

The future of the Argentine star has also been a major talking point having been subject to bids from and Napoli in January.

Amorim, who has earned praise for his candid demeanour, told Garnacho, 20, to find a new club after their final defeat to Hotspur earlier this month, reported.

Despite Garnacho seemingly having to bid Manchester adieu per his manager's instructions, team-mate Amad admitted he hopes the winger remains at the club beyond this summer.

"Alejandro is a really good player and we need good players in the team," he said during United's post-season Asia tour. "I know Garna really well, so I hope to have Garna next season. It is not really a big issue for the team. Everything is good now, I think."
