Donald Trump slams 'past supporters' as MAGA fans call out Epstein files U-turn

Donald Trump has lashed out at "past supporters" as they continue to push for the release of files related to Jeffrey Epstein, which the president has branded a "hoax", despite his administration vowing to release documents regarding the serial paedophile.

Trump has continued to downplay the concerns of his supporters who believe the US government has not released all lists and documents regarding late billionaire Epstein who died in a Manhattan prison cell in 2019. The official narrative from the FBI that Epstein died by suicide and did not blackmail powerful political and global figures has baffled many voters who cast their ballot for Trump in part due to vows that his administration would declassify files relating to the case.

The president, current FBI director Kash Patel, Vice President JD Vance, Trump's son Donald Trump Jr and others all either called for or vowed to release the files after questioning Democrats over why they had not done so. Many of the MAGA faithful pushed back after full-throated supporters of releasing the files appeared to make a U-turn once they arrived in office.

Trump has since weighed in on the controversy, by contradicting previous statements that there was no list and then claiming, without evidence, that the files could not be released as Democrats had tampered with them. Today, Trump said Democrats had tried to carry out a "hoax" by calling for the release of the documents.

"Their new SCAM is what we will forever call the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax, and my PAST supporters have bought into this 'b******t,' hook, line and sinker," Trump said in a post shared to TruthSocial. "They haven’t learned their lesson, and probably never will, even after being conned by the Lunatic Left for 8 long years."

The president pointed to previous scandals promoted or silenced by Democrats, such as one regarding Hunter Biden's laptop. But this deflection has not stopped many of his supporters to question why Trump had not followed through with his apparent commitment to release documents about Epstein.

Chaos erupted around the subject after former Trump ally Elon Musk claimed earlier this year that Trump was in the Epstein files, though he provided nothing to support this. Trump has previously been photographed with Epstein and was named as a good friend by the late billionaire. There is no suggestion Trump knew of any crimes or participated in any criminal behaviour.

Epstein was found guilty of sex trafficking underage girls and his connections with influential politicians and celebrities raised questions among many online about whether he was at the heart of an elite paedophile ring. Those same questions were raised by MAGA influencers who have since gone on to claim Epstein did not die by suicide and did not have a blackmail list.

Democrats have since seized on Trump's apparent unease at releasing the files by calling for votes to cross examine the documents. Both of their attempts were ultimately voted down by Republicans who claim Democrats were attaching the votes to bills unrelated to Epstein.
