Arsenal hope to seal the £69million signing of Viktor Gyokeres by the end of the week to finally land a much-needed striker for the club. The Sweden international has been the transfer saga of the summer having refused to turn up for Sporting CP's pre-season training.
The Gunners want the deal done in time for thebeginning of their summer tour so Gyokeres can depart with them for Singapore on Saturday, per the Athletic. The north London side have games against Milan, Newcastle, Tottenham, Villarreal and Athletic Bilbao before their Premier League campaign gets underway with a clash against Manchester United.
Mikel Arteta has led his team's preparations in Cartagena, Spain and will hope to have a number of new additions in time for the weekend, including Noni Madueke and Cristian Mosquera. The arrival of a new striker would offer a significant boost for the squad after Arsenal made a breakthrough for Gyokeres.
The deal is not yet complete with thestucture of add-ons still to be agreed between the Gunners and Sporting. The Portuguese side demanded in excess of £60m with add-ons and are now close to getting the deal over the line. It's understood that want £69m in total.
The breakthrough between the teamscame as the player's agent agree to a reduced fee in order to facilitate a move for his client. Previously the representative had been in a fiery spat with Sporting over the fee Gyokeres would be permitted to leave for.

Sporting president Frederico Varandas revealed he would not be blackmailed in a bombshell interview and denied that there was an agreement in place, beyond allowing Gyokeres to leave for a market value. Ultimately the forward followed through with his threat of striking and did not travel to the club's pre-season camp in Portugal.
Gyokeres scored 54 goals in 52 games and Arsenal will hope he can provide the firepower required to move them beyond the runners-up spot they've held onto in the Premier League. And there is an ambition to integrate him quickly with only a month until the season gets underway.
The Gunners are hopeful of completing a number of deals with Madueke's arrival expected to be announced imminently. The England international is set to join for £52m from Chelsea after departing the Club World Cup campaign early.
The former PSV winger is said to have undergone his medical and agreed terms ahead of being unveiled by the club.
Arsenal could also soon add Mosquera. The defender has been a target for Arteta's side throughout the summer and keen on the move.
A fee had proved difficult to agree but Arsenal are now believed to have a verbal agreement in place over a deal worth £13m plus add-ons.
