Fatty liver is now spreading like a new epidemic. This disease does not give any symptoms in the beginning, so it is important to take it seriously. The AIIMS report has made it clear that the time has come for us to make changes in our diet and lifestyle.

Causes of fatty liver: The diseases are increasing at the same pace at which lifestyle and eating habits are changing in the country. According to a recent research by AIIMS, about 30% of the Indian population suffers from non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). This is a disease in which fat gets accumulated in the liver, but the reason for this is not alcohol, but bad eating habits, high calories and a sedentary lifestyle.
NAFLD is a condition in which fat gets accumulates in the liver but the person does not drink alcohol. This condition, if not corrected in time, can lead to liver fibrosis, cirrhosis and even liver cancer. In a country like India where the trend of eating fast food, processed food and sweets is increasing, the spread of this disease is a matter of serious concern.
Which people are more at risk
People who are overweight or have increased waist fat are at a higher risk of getting fatty liver. Obesity disrupts fat metabolism in the body, which leads to fat accumulation in the liver. People with fat around the stomach are especially at risk.
Diabetes and high blood pressure patients
People who have type-2 diabetes or high blood pressure have a greater load on their liver. These diseases are associated with metabolic syndrome which can directly cause fatty liver. Therefore, people with diabetes and high blood pressure should take special care of their liver health.
People who sit for long periods of time-
People who sit for hours at the computer or in office work and do not do physical activity, their body does not burn calories and fat starts accumulating in the liver. Lack of exercise makes the liver sluggish, which increases the risk of fatty liver manifold.
People who eat fast food and fried foods
Those whose diet is more dependent on outside oily and high calorie food are also more prone to fatty liver. Excessive consumption of sweets, junk food and canned items causes inflammation and fat in the liver. These habits have become common among children and youth these days.
People who ignore sleep and stress
People who do not get enough sleep or are always stressed - their hormonal system gets disturbed. This increases the accumulation of fat in the body, which directly affects the liver. Lack of sleep and mental stress can further worsen fatty liver.
How can prevention be done?
- Get plenty of sleep and reduce stress
- Keep your weight under control
- Get a health checkup done on time
- Stay away from sugar and ghee-oil foods
- Walk or exercise for at least 30 minutes daily
- Include green vegetables, fruits, and fiber in your diet
