The Government of India has directed to conduct mock drills across the country to deal with possible emergencies on May 7. Know what preparations to make before the drill, what to keep in mind and what to do during a blackout.

 

 

 

Mock Drill: Amidst the possibilities of war between India and Pakistan, preparations are being made in India to deal with it. The Home Ministry took a big decision on Monday and directed all the states to conduct a mock drill on May 7. Under this, sirens will be sounded at a fixed time in the evening.

Don't panic before the mock drill, but make these preparations

 

Before the drill, people have been advised not to worry and make some necessary preparations so that any inconvenience can be avoided during this period.

Make these necessary preparations before the drill:
  • Fully charge your mobile phone and power bank at night.
  • Keep battery or solar powered torches, radios, glow sticks, etc. nearby.
  • Carry a valid ID card with you.
  • Keep an emergency kit ready: Includes drinking water, dry food and essential medications.
Safe Haven and Family Practice

Decide in advance on a safe location, such as an interior room of the home or a basement.

Practice once as a family: turn off the lights and try to gather at the designated place in 1–2 minutes.

Memorize or write down emergency numbers

Police Helpline: 112

Fire Service: 101

Ambulance Service: 102

What to do during a blackout
  • Do not use the lift between 7 and 8 pm. Close the lift so that you do not get stuck in a blackout.
  • Don’t panic if you hear sirens or announcements — this is part of the exercise.
  • Follow police, administration, school or other official instructions.

During blackout
  • Stay indoors and away from windows.
  • If you are driving, stop it on the side, switch off the engine and lights.
  • Switch off indoor and outdoor lights, disconnect the inverter.
  • Switch off gas and electrical appliances immediately.
Stay away from windows, take care of the elderly
  • Pay special attention to children, the elderly, and pets.
  • Do not use phone or LED devices near the window.
  • Cover the windows with thick curtains or cardboard.
  • Do not spread rumours or unverified information on social media.
What to do after the drill?
  • After the drill is over, if no new instructions are received, normal work can be resumed.
  • If anyone has any problem then contact the concerned administration.
  • Explain to children and the elderly that this was an exercise so that we remain prepared in case of an emergency.
