Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor recently found herself at the centre of online chatter after she liked an Instagram reel that subtly criticised actress Madhuri Dixit while heaping praise on her late mother, legendary star Sridevi. The reel featured contrasting clips of both actresses' iconic performances and made bold comparisons.
One segment showed Madhuri's popular song Dhak Dhak Karne Laga with Janhvi's uncle, actor Anil Kapoor, captioned with comments labelling such songs as "vulgar." In contrast, the reel lauded Sridevi for her versatile performance in Khuda Gawah.
"Madhuri in Beta - Did vulgar step song and did nothing in the movie and won Filmfare Best Actress award (sic)," the caption for Madhuri read.
Along with a scene from Sridevi's Khuda Gawah, was the caption which read, "Did double role with landmark acting that carried whole movie on her shoulder still Filmfare ignored her for Best Actress (sic)."
It may be mentioned that both the films released around the same time in 1992. While Beta hit the big screens on April 3, 1992, Sridevi's film released on May 8 the same year.
Reddit users quickly picked up on Janhvi's engagement with the post, sparking debate over whether the like was intentional or accidental.

Reacting to it on Reddit, a user commented, "Another victim of the algorithm pandemic....hoping Instagram comes with a vaccine soon."
"Even she will come up with algorithm story now," read another comment.
"Wait for her to join Kohli - Tamanna gang of accidental like post," another user commented under the post.
A user also stated that this could be Janhvi's PR stunt to get attention. "What is this post??? Are people on insta that dumb ..Yes, this was a hit song and Madhuri performed insanely well but she acted well too and that's why she won the award. There wasn't a Karan Johar or overactive PR back then to promote downright bad performances as good. Edit: On second thoughts it could well be a pr stunt to get some attention," read the user's comment.
While Janhvi has made no statement, the incident drew comparisons to a similar situation involving actress Tamannaah Bhatia and cricketer Virat Kohli.
Just a couple of days ago, Tamannaah's like appeared on a reel that criticised Animal director Sandeep Reddy Vanga and supported Deepika Padukone amid the Spirit film controversy. Tamannaah later issued a clarification via Instagram story, stating that she had not liked the post and suggesting it may have been an error.
Earlier, Virat liked a picture of actress Avneet Kaur which was shared by one of her fan pages. He later issued a clarification saying, "I'd like clarify that while clearing my feed, it appears the algorithm may have mistakenly registered an interaction. There was absolutely no intent behind it. I request that no unnecessary assumptions be made. Thank you for your understanding."
It is not known whether Janhvi's like was deliberate or a slip of the thumb.
