Calling India and Pakistan brotherly neighbours, Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Friday expressed Tehran's willingness to mediate between the two countries during "this difficult time."
In a post on X, Araghchi stated: "India and Pakistan are brotherly neighbours of Iran, enjoying relations rooted in centuries-old cultural and civilizational ties. Like other neighbours, we consider them our foremost priority. Tehran stands ready to use its good offices in Islamabad and New Delhi to foster greater understanding during this difficult time."

The minister reinforced his message by quoting 13th-century Persian poet Saadi Shirazi: "Human beings are members of a whole; In creation of one essence and soul; If one member is afflicted with pain; Other members uneasy will remain." This reference highlighted Iran's approach to mediation based on principles of unity and shared humanity.
Earlier on April 23, Araghchi had condemned the terrorist attack against tourists in Pahalgam, posting: "Iran strongly and unequivocally condemns the terrorist attack against tourists in Pahalgam. Our thoughts and prayers are with the innocent victims and their families. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the people and government of India."
Relations between India and Pakistan have deteriorated significantly following the April 22 attack on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which killed at least 26 people and left many injured.
India has imposed tough measures against Pakistan following the dastardly attack, including suspending the Indus Water Treaty, closing borders to Pakistani citizens, and canceling all existing visas with immediate effect.
