New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in a telephonic conversation spoke to his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, and discussed the recent escalation in tension between India and Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalagam terror attack, which killed 26 civilians. EAM Jaishankar said that the perpetrators of the attack must be brought to justice.
Jaishankar posted on micro-blogging website X, “Discussed the Pahalgam terrorist attack with FM Lavrov of Russia yesterday. Its perpetrators, backers and planners must be brought to justice. Also spoke about our bilateral coooeration activities."
The two leaders also discussed the schedule of upcoming contacts at the highest and high levels.
Regarding the interaction a release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation said, “They discussed issues of Russian-Indian cooperation and the aggravation of Indian-Pakistani relations following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
Meanwhile, India on Saturday banned direct or indirect import of all goods from Pakistan with immediate effect. The Ministry of Commerce issued a notification in this regard.
After the Paghalgam terrorist attack, New Delhi announced a series sanctions against Islamabad, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and the closure of the Attari-Wagah border. Notably, it is the only trade route between India and Pakistan.
