Coolie Hindi Review: Lokesh Kanagaraj is known for directing some amazing movies like Kaithi, Master, and Vikram. His last directorial Leo, had received a mixed response, but everyone has been looking forward to Coolie because the filmmaker has teamed up with none other than Superstar Rajinikanth. So, is this director-actor collaboration worth a watch? Read on to know that...
The movie revolves around Deva (Rajinikanth), who owns a mansion in Chennai where boys are given rooms to stay. His best friend, Rajasekar (Sathyaraj) passes away, and while the autopsy report says that he died due to a cardiac arrest, the truth is that he was murdered. Rajasekar worked for Simon (Nagarjuna), who is involved in numerous illegal businesses. So, is Simon behind Rajsekar's murder, or is there someone else? Deva decides to search for the murderer of his best friend and take revenge, and that forms the rest of the story...
Coolie is written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. If you have watched his previous movies, you would know that the director's films have many subplots, and Coolie is not an exception. So, you need to watch the movie very carefully because a lot of things are happening in it.
The film starts on a decent note, but picks up very well in the pre-interval and interval scenes. Lokesh's movies always have a great interval block that makes us excited for the second half, and that happens in Coolie as well.
After the interval, Coolie picks up fantastically, and every 15 minutes there's a twist that will surprise you. Remember the twist of Agent Tina in Vikram, well, here also there's a HUGE TWIST that will leave you shocked!
While the drama and thriller elements are very impressive in the film, we missed some good action sequences. The action is quite regular.
Coolie Review: Actors' Performances
Coolie is a treat for Rajinikanth fans! Lokesh has wonderfully presented the superstar, and his performance surely impresses us a lot. But this is a movie that also gives other actors a fantastic scope to perform and showcase their talent.
After Rajinikanth, it is Soubin Shahir's act that steals the show. He is simply excellent in the film. Nagarjuna, as the antagonist, leaves a strong mark, and Shruti Haasan gets the perfect emotional quotient in the film; she is very good.
Upendra and Aamir Khan add the star power to the film with their cameos. But don't expect a great performance from them as their screen time is very less. Meanwhile, Sathyaraj is good in his extended cameo. Rachita Ram is exceptional in the movie; her performance is just WOW!
Coolie Review: Music
The songs of Coolie are strictly decent, and apart from Monica, none of them will stay with you once the movie is over. However, Anirudh Ravichander's background score is impressive.
In one of the action sequences, the makers have used Chappa Chappa Charkha Chale from Maachis as the background music. But a better song would have taken the sequence a notch higher. It doesn't match the whole action sequence.
Coolie Review: Final Verdict
Overall, Coolie is a good film filled with unexpected twists and turns. But, when it comes to action, don't expect anything great. Also, if you are a Rajinikanth fan, this is a must-watch for you!
