Navratri 2025: Every year, when Navratri or any special puja comes, we see that red flowers are offered exclusively to Goddess Durga. In temples, home prayers, and rituals, red hibiscus or red roses are often placed at the feet of the Goddess. But have you ever wondered why this happens? Is offering flowers of any other color prohibited? Or does the Goddess become angry? To find answers to these questions, we spoke with Bhopal-based astrologer and Vastu consultant Pandit Hitendra Kumar Sharma and also delved into religious scriptures.

Red's Deep Connection to the Goddess
Red is considered a symbol of strength, courage, and energy. Goddess Durga, who is considered the slayer of demons and protector of the world, also has a fiery and fierce form. Therefore, red is considered her favorite color. In idols of Goddess Durga, you may have noticed that red is prominent in her saree, veil, and even jewelry. This color represents the Goddess's martial prowess and love for her devotees.
The Special Significance of Red Flowers
According to pundits, offering flowers during worship isn't just a ritual, but an expression of devotion. When we give flowers to someone, it symbolizes our love and respect. Similarly, offering flowers to the Goddess demonstrates our faith in her. The red hibiscus flower is especially dear to Goddess Durga. It is said that the radiance and brightness of this flower symbolize the Goddess's power. This flower quickly pleases the Goddess and helps us gain her blessings.
Can't we offer flowers of other colors?
The belief that only red flowers should be offered is not entirely correct. Other flowers, such as marigold, champa, jasmine, and tuberose, can also be offered to the Goddess. The Goddess never judges the devotion of her devotees by color. If the sentiment is true, any flower can be dedicated to the Goddess. Yes, on special occasions, such as Navratri, offering red flowers can bestow special blessings from the Goddess. Therefore, red flowers are given a little more importance, but this does not mean that other flowers are prohibited.

Pandit Ji Says
According to Pandit Ji, offering flowers during puja brings auspiciousness and positive energy to the home. Especially if red flowers are used in puja, the atmosphere remains vibrant and energetic. This not only makes the puja successful but also brings happiness, peace, and prosperity to the family.
