Adani Group-owned Navi Mumbai International Airport is set to be inaugurated on October 8, after facing multiple delays from earlier this year.
The airport is expected to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Ahead of the inauguration, Gautam Adani shared glimpses of his visit to Mumbai's second airport where he said that he met with differently-abled colleagues, construction workers, women staff, engineers, artisans, fire fighters and the guards who helped bring this vision to life.
"I felt the pulse of a living wonder - a monument shaped by thousands of hands and hearts. When millions of flights take to the skies and billions walk through these halls, the spirit of these people will echo through every takeoff and every step - and to them, I offer my deepest gratitude. Jai Hind," he said in a post on X.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Navi Mumbai Airport received its Aerodrome License from Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), which permits an airport to commence operations after meeting all safety and regulatory standards.
NMIA is being developed in five phases, with the launch phase expected to handle 20 million passengers per annum (MPPA) and 0.5 million metric tons (MMT) of cargo. Upon full completion, the airport will have the capacity to serve 90 MPPA and handle 3.2 MMT of cargo annually.
Earlier, Maharashtra CM Fadnavis had said that the NMIA will be will be many times bigger than the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai.
The Navi Mumbai Airport is a 74:26 joint venture between Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL) and City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO).
In February 2018, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the new airport, which is coming up at an investment of Rs 16,700 crore with an aim to reduce the congestion at the capacity-constrained Mumbai airport, along with meeting the soaring demand for air travel in the country.
