Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written the foreword to the Indian edition of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s memoir, I Am Giorgia: My Roots, My Principles, lauding her as a “patriot and outstanding contemporary leader” whose personal and political journey resonates deeply with Indians, India Today reported.

Taking inspiration from his own radio programme, Modi likened Meloni’s autobiography to her very own “Mann Ki Baat.” He described it as a “great honour” to contribute to the book, which is set to be launched in India soon by Rupa Publications. “I do so with respect, admiration and friendship for Prime Minister Meloni,” Modi wrote, adding that her “inspiring and historic” journey would be “well received in India as a refreshing story of an outstanding contemporary political leader,” India Today noted.

In his foreword, Modi reflected on more than a decade of engaging with world leaders of diverse backgrounds and highlighted that Meloni’s life underscores “timeless truths” of resilience and rootedness. “Her belief in defending one’s cultural heritage while engaging with the world on equal terms mirrors our own values,” he wrote, according to India Today.

Meloni’s Personal Journey

Originally published in Italy, Meloni’s memoir is a candid account of both her personal life and political rise. She writes about her roots, childhood in Rome’s Garbatella neighbourhood, and the profound influence of her family, her mother Anna, sister Arianna, and grandparents Maria and Gianni, alongside the emotional impact of her father’s absence.

The book also traces her early passion for politics, which began as a teenager, her path to ministerial office, the leadership of Fratelli d’Italia and the European Conservatives, and ultimately, her ascent to Italy’s highest political office.

About Meloni: Balancing Leadership and Family

Meloni does not shy away from sharing her personal life either. She discusses her relationship with her partner Andrea and their daughter Ginevra, reflecting on motherhood, faith, identity, and her vision for Italy and Europe. With her trademark directness, she narrates both struggles and aspirations, offering an intimate portrait of a leader whose rise has drawn international attention.

Modi’s foreword, as India Today reported, positions Meloni not just as a global leader but as an example of determination, resilience, and cultural rootedness, qualities that, according to him, resonate strongly with the Indian ethos.

With the Indian edition set to release soon, readers will get an opportunity to explore the life and principles of one of Europe’s most prominent political figures, alongside Modi’s reflections on leadership and values.
