People's Democratic Party leader and former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday said that the real heirs and progeny of Mughals are the Rajwadas (erstwhile royals) close to the BJP and not the poor muslims of India.
Addressing a party convention in Srinagar, she said that Mughals used to marry Rajwadas and not the poor muslims, so the current dispensation can find their children, progeny and heirs around them.
“The BJP government who talk of Mughals should know that Hindustan is not the heritage of Godse or Mughals but that of Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs who fought for the independence. It is the heritage of people where along with Bhagat Singh and Raj Guru, Ashfaqullah was also sent to gallows,” said Mufti. The People’s Democratic Party chief said that the “real heirs of Mughals are not poor muslims of this country but those Rajwadas sitting around you.Mughals used to marry with Rajwadas. You can find their heirs and children among those sitting around you.”
She said that the heritage of Mughals is Taj Mahal, Lal Qila, Qutub Minar, Fatehpur Sikri where thousands of people visit but the BJP in the name of Mughal heritage have started digging graves.
In a veiled reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘tyre puncture remark’ regarding muslims the PDP chief said that muslims may be fixing the punctures of tyres but would do so with dignity and many of them are skilled craftsmen. “You keep mentioning Pasmanda Musalman. After whatever happened in Gujarat, the Almighty gave you another chance. Everyone commits a sin or mistake, but Almighty gives a chance to repent,” Mufti urged Prime Minister adding, “
What militants did to Kashmiri Pandits, you shouldn’t do that with the muslims of India.”
Mufti urged the BJP not to repeat the mistake of Hurriyat and militants, when they shut the door to the delegation of leaders from across India in 2016 and didn’t respect the Ramazan ceasefire as well. “Hurriyat and militants rode high horses of guns and stones in 2016 and today BJP rides the high horses of PSA, UAPA and NIA,” said Mufti. She said that the BJP government should release prisoners of Kashmir as the authorities don't have anything against them. “Give passports to people, stop termination of employees and start talking to people of J&K. Then the turn of Pakistan (for dialogue) will come as well.”
The PDP leader also said that the muslims across India should unite to protest against the Waqf Act peacefully and democratically. “We have to talk about J&K and muslims of India as well. 24 crore muslims are feeling choked and they don't even have land to bury their dead,” said Mufti, adding, “Muslims of J&K and 24 crore muslims of India, have joined hands with this country after a great thought. Don't injure this hand. If you want to bring development to this country, look forward, not backward.”
The PDP leader also targeted the ruling National Conference here saying that the former R&AW chief A S Dulat’s assertions against Farooq Abdullah regarding his private support to Article 370, is not surprising at all.
“Since 1947, NC has betrayed Kashmiris to appease Delhi and betrayed Delhi to get votes in Kashmir. Their response to the Waqf Act was also unfortunate. I tried to bring them on board during recent Iftar parties for a protest against Waqf outside parliament, but unfortunately they welcomed the minister in Tulip garden of Srinagar, who presented the Waqf Bill in parliament,” said Mufti.
