Indian vice-captain Smriti Mandhana shared a light-hearted moment with spectators on Sunday, October 26, at the Dr. D. Y. Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai, during India’s Women’s World Cup 2025 clash against Bangladesh. The match, however, was washed out due to persistent rain, resulting in India finishing fourth in the group stage with three wins.
While fielding near the boundary ropes, Mandhana found herself at the center of some playful banter from the crowd. The spectators in the stands began chanting, "Ek do, ek do, Smriti Di ko bowling do", urging the star batter to take a turn with the ball. Hearing the chants, Mandhana could not help but smile and appeared slightly shy, creating a light and cheerful moment amid the rain delays.

The left-handed opener has been in sublime form throughout the tournament and is currently the leading run-scorer. She has amassed 365 runs in seven innings at an impressive average of 60.83. Mandhana’s campaign has featured a century (109 off 95 balls) against New Zealand Women, along with crucial knocks of 88 against England and 80 against Australia.
Speaking of India’s overall campaign, the hosts registered victories over Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and New Zealand, but suffered defeats to South Africa, Australia, and England. Despite the setbacks, India’s spirited performance, highlighted by Mandhana, Pratika Rawal and Deepti Sharma’s heroics prominently, helped them secure a semi-final berth.
India Women will now face Australia Women in the second semi-final on October 30 at the Dr. D. Y. Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai. It promises to be a high-stakes encounter as India look to overcome the mighty Australians and book a place in the final, while the first semi-final between England and South Africa will take place on October 29 at the Baraspara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati.
