Rio [Brazil], April 21 (ANI): Filmmaker Patricia Riggen, who is best known for her critically acclaimed TV series Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, has returned with an action-thriller 'G20,' starring none other than Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis.
The film, which recently hit the streaming giant Prime Video, has undoubtedly surprised Viola Davis' fans, as it's the first time they've seen her in an out-and-out action mode.
In a virtual interview with ANI, Patricia opened up about her experience working with Viola Davis. She also expressed her gratitude to the 'Widows' star for choosing her to direct 'G20'.
"Viola started this project, and she's the one who hired me to direct it. So I owe it to her. I think the reason why I, as a woman and as a Mexican woman in the US, get to direct a big movie, a big action movie, is because Viola is a producer in it. So she's the one who chose me," Patricia shared.
The director added, "And why did she (Viola) want to make it? Because she also wants to make fun movies. She wants to make movies that she can watch with her daughter, and that she can just have fun, and not always be very heavy performances. Even though she still brought a lot of emotion to this one.
Patricia's directorial sees terrorists overtake the G20 Summit, with American President Danielle Sutton (Viola Davis) then bringing all her statecraft and military experience to defend her family, her fellow leaders and the world.
While the movie uses the premise fictional female US President to create an action-packed narrative, it also raises a compelling question: Why America still doesn't have a woman president?
When asked Patricia about the same, she said, "One of the things that really moved me to make this movie was the possibility of changing the culture with the movie. And we have not seen a woman as the president in a movie. We certainly don't see female action heroes. With the combination of these two things in a movie, I tried to normalise and change the culture...so my secret intention with this movie is that I hope one day we will see a woman in the president's chair."
'G20' also features Anthony Anderson, Marsai Martin, Ramon Rodriguez, Douglas Hodge, Elizabeth Marvel, Sabrina Impacciatore, Clark Gregg, and Antony Starr. (ANI)
