Volkswagen Auto India finally has launched the new Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line SUV in the Indian market. The Tiguan R-line is essentially the sportier version of the regular Tiguan and will be bought to India via the CBU route. The bookings for the new SUV are underway, interested customers can book it online or by visiting their nearest VW dealership. The booking amount is set at Rs 25,000 with deliveries expected to begin shortly. The Tiguan R-Line directly competes with the 2025 Skoda Kodiaq , Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Meridian, Toyota Fortuner and MG Gloster. Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line vs Skoda Kodiaq: Price, variants
The Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line is offered in a single variant priced at Rs 48.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and will make its way to India via (CBU) completely built-up unit. The new Kodiaq on the other hand will be offered in two variants - L&K and Sportline. It’s expected to be priced from Rs 45 lakh (ex-showroom), official price announcement will be made on April, 17 2025.

Both SUVs are based on the same MQB ‘Evo’ platform, but that doesn’t mean they share identical dimensions. The Tiguan R-Line measures 4539mm in length, 1639mm in height, and 1842mm in width heavily restyled Tiguan is 30mm longer and has 2680mm of wheelbase. It has a drag coefficient of 0.28 Cd.
The Kodiaq measures 4759 mm in length, 1864 mm in width, and 1679 mm in height and the SUV has grown by 61mm from 4.69-metres to 4.75-metres but the wheelbase and width remain the same at 2.71-metres and 1.8-metres respectively. Skoda claims the drag Coefficient of the new Kodiaq has been reduced to cd = 0.282.

Moving inside, the new Tiguan gets a newly designed dashboard with a 15.1-inch freestanding touchscreen infotainment system with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The gear selector is integrated into the steering column and it also gets a HUD display. Features include massaging front seats, ventilated seats, multi-zone climate control, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, a rotary controller with an inbuilt OLED screen, ADAS, Park Assist Pro, remote parking capability and much more.
The Kodiaq gets a 13.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a 10-inch digital instrument cluster with a HUD display, 15W wireless smartphone charging with active cooling, unique LED ambient light strip placements and umbrella storage at the front doors. Other features include connected car tech, an in-built navigation system, a premium sound system, hands-free parking, 360-degree cameras, three-zone automatic climate control, and heated and ventilated front seats with a massage function.

The Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line and Skoda Kodiaq are powered by the same VW group’s tried and tested 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo petrol engine with identical power outputs. It puts out 201 bhp of power at 4500-6000 rpm and 320 Nm torque at 1500-4400 rpm. It comes paired with a 7-speed DSG gearbox, which sends power to all four wheels. The Skoda will be offered with standard springs and dampers, whereas the Tiguan gets Dynamic Chassis Control with adaptive suspension.
