Send Push

India turned around a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead in the T20I series vs Australia in Queensland. After the first game was rained off in Canberra, Australia won the second by four wickets in Melbourne. India fought back to win the third by five wickets in Hobart before winning the fourth by 48 runs to take an unbeatable lead in the five-match series. Now, with one game left, India cannot lose the series, meaning they continue their unbeaten streak in T20I bilaterals Down Under. India have never lost a T20I series in Australia with two wins and two draws. They did lose a one-off T20I in 2008.

India Cannot Lose the T20I Series vs Australia

If India win the last game or it ends in a no-result, the series will be won by the visitors in Brisbane. However, if Australia can win it, the series shall be won. Australia cannot win the series so a draw is their next best option. The dream of beating India in a T20I series Down Under remains unfulfilled. For Suryakumar Yadav, a series win will take him into a special club of which only MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli are members.

Suryakumar Yadav Could Join MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli in Exclusive Club

If Suryakumar leads India to a series win, he will become the third Indian captain to win a T20I series in Australia. The other two are Dhoni and Kohli. Dhoni led India to their first-ever T20I series win Down Under when the Men in Blue whitewashed Australia 3-0 in 2016. Kohli joined the club when his team won 2-1 in 2020. Now Suryakumar has a chance to be part of an elite list.

Virat Kohli’s Unique Feat as Team India Captain Down Under

Kohli is also the first Indian skipper to win a Test series in Australia which was back in 2018-19. In 2019, he led India to a maiden bilateral ODI series win Down Under. Under Dhoni, India had won a tri-series in 2008 while Sunil Gavaskar was at the helm when they won a multi-nation tournament in 1985. Kohli remains the only Indian captain to win a series in every format on Australian soil.

India’s Brilliant T20I Form Ahead of 2026 T20 World Cup

India have the momentum with them having won their last two games. These are good signs with the T20 World Cup just three months away. India are the defending champions having won the title in 2024. Since becoming world champions, India have played 30 T20Is, won 25, lost four while one was a no-result. In 2025, they have played 16 T20Is of which they have won 13, lost two and one was a no-result.

After this series is concluded on November 8, India have another 10 T20Is to play before the T20 World Cup. Five will be against South Africa and five against New Zealand and all are on home soil where the World Cup shall be held as well. India’s preparation looks good as they are solidifying a combination in all departments and also increasing their bench strength. If all goes well, there is no reason why India cannot become the first to win three T20 World Cups.
